hi and welcome to the melbourne smashers,melbourne's lesbian, gay and gender diverse badminton club, one of the largest badmintonclubs in victoria. we're a gay run, friendly and inclusive clubthat welcomes people from all communities, irrespective of orientation, race, genderidentity or religion. friends and family are welcome too.

we have a large and diverse membership, andrun weekly sessions at the melbourne sports and aquatic centre close to the cbd. the sessionsrun for two hours every thursday evening and sunday afternoon. in addition to our weekly sessions we operatenumerous social events that include a popular

trivia night, rock climbing, board games andother outings according to the season. not a member? no problem! casual players arewelcome, and the second session is free for any newcomers. we have extra racquets forthose who want to give it a try before committing. badminton is a dynamic and sociable sport,and it's great for mixed ability playing across all age groups. the group includes absolutebeginners through to players of national standard, so all skill levels are welcome. during our ordinary sessions, we play doublesacross the skill ranges, so there's great scope for improving your game play, or helpingothers improve if you're already a little bit flash! accredited training is also available to memberswho wish to improve their game.

hi, my name is john webb. i have been coachingfor badminton for over 15 years. i am going to share some tips on how to play badminton. on walking through the basic selection ofbuying a badminton racquet, what we look for, watch out for. we start playing badmintonafter we learnt up holding a racquet from the sports centre which will be very clunkybig chunk metal and probably very weighed down. so, let me walk through what is theimportant thing before buying a badminton racquet. most racquets now weigh between 75 and 95grams. germany made over carbonyl graphite for good torque in the racquet. some racquetsalso are wide bodied which acquisitions the air resistance which makes your shots a lotquicker. you also importantly want to be looking fortwo-piece or one piece racquet which means narrow big clunky metal join there, but thewhole flows through, one piece metal looks lighter. it has got a good strength and actuallyit has good connecting energies when you're hitting a shot quicke...
